Reflection:
- Who did you imagine as the audience for this screencast? How did that impact your design choices?
I imagine the audience for this screencast tend to the beginner users who may not have much experience with presentation design software and are seeking guidance on using tools like Slidesgo platform to create professional-looking slides. I think my audience also tend to students who are looking for creative ways to enhance their presentations, such as for school projects or assignments. For beginners, I need to introduce the functions and usage of this webpage at a slower pace so that they can keep up. In addition, I must ensure that easy-to-understand instructions are provided to guide users on how to customize slideshows, such as changing the color, font or layout.
- Provide an example of a multimedia learning principle that you have intuitively followed in the past, and an example of a multimedia learning principle that you have not followed in the past. What will you do differently now?
Whether it’s a lecture in a previous professional class or a group project, as long as it involves a presentation, I usually just use a lot of text plus pictures corresponding to the topic to make a slides. I’ve never used narration and subtitles in the slides I’ve created, nor added animation effects. For example, in this tutorial, instead of simply listing a series of steps, I will demonstrate the visual interface of the tool and explain the process with narration. In this way, the learner can focus on the visual aspect while following the instructions, avoiding the cognitive load of intensive text. When adding extra details or irrelevant visual effects to make the tutorial more attractive, I may not always follow the principle of coherence. For example, adding unrelated background music or adding too many effects or transitions between sections. Although these additional materials are intended to enhance attractiveness, they may distract from the core content and affect learning outcomes.
